When a place in the tropical or warm temperate zone of the earth suddenly heats up in a small range for a variety of reasons, the air there becomes lighter and that light air rises to form a strong depression center in that place. Such low pressure centers have the lowest air pressure, so in order to maintain the pressure-thermal balance, strong winds from all sides enter the low pressure center and keep on rising. Thus the rotation of high-speed wind towards the center is called a cyclone. In a word, strong winds with low pressure are called cyclones.
In 1848, scientist Henry Pdington first used the word cyclone, which is derived from the Greek word cyclos, which means snake coil. This was called because the wind enter into the depression jute like a snake's coil.
Features of Cyclone:
The center of a cyclone forms a deep depression center. The pressure of this center is about 850 to 900 millibars.
The whirlwind enters the center in anti-clockwise direction in the northern hemisphere and in a clockwise direction in the southern hemisphere.
The intensity of the cyclone increases as the level of air pressure increases.
Tropical cyclones are short-lived over a short period of time, but temperate cyclones are long-lasting and long period of time.
In case of cyclone the wind speed can be from 30 to 400 km per hour.
The participation of around 35 to 60 km diameter in the middle of a cyclone is called a cyclone eye.
Cyclones may form in open land bodies and the direction of cyclones varies slightly with north and south.
The effects of cyclones are severe storms and extremely catastrophic weather.
The height of a huge cyclone can be about 15 km or more and the diameter can be up to a few thousand kilometers.
The shape of a vortex is usually similar to the English letter V but is sometimes round or elliptical.
According to the origin and location, cyclones can be divided into two main classes which are tropical cyclones and temperate cyclones.
Tropical cyclone:
The low pressure is caused by tropical cyclones centered on the sea in the region between the 5 to 30 degree latitude on either side of the equator.
Such a cyclone is a very powerful, destructive and terrifying storm that is a low pressure process with a diameter of about 350 km and a power like 10,000 atomic bombs.
Tropical oceans have higher temperatures, and tropical cyclones are more likely to be strong in the tropics because they have sufficient evaporative heat, and they hit the coast as they move towards land.
However, after entering the land, such cyclones gradually lose their strength, but the higher the intensity of the tropical cyclone on the surface of the sea.
If tropical cyclones are stable in a region for a while, then heavy rainfall can cause flooding in that region, but not every part of the cyclone.
The average diameter of a tropical cyclone is 80 to 300 km.
Although the course of a tropical cyclone varies from time to time, it is mainly moves from east to west under the influence of trade winds.
These tropical cyclones are known by different names in different parts of the world. Cyclone is known as the Hurricane in the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, the Tropical Cyclone is known as Typhoon in the South China Sea, Cyclone in the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and in the Southwest Indian Ocean, and the Willie Wiley in the South Indian Ocean. It is also known as Bagui in the Philippine Islands of the North Indian Ocean, tornado in middle basin of U.S.A etc
In terms of speed, therefore, all tropical cyclone has created almost record, such as hurricane, tornado, cyclone, etc.
Tornado: A tornado is a funnel-shaped storm that extends from the surface to the sky. The highest number of tornadoes originates in the central United States, mainly in spring and early summer. Tornado originates from a Spanish word meaning storm. The funnel-shaped storms of the tornado are associated with land divisions in the form of surface with lower tube-shaped. It is extends from the surface to the sky.
A tornado is the most powerful and devastating cyclone on Earth with a speed of around 500km/hour. The presence of black cumulonimbus clouds can be noticed in this extremely devastating cyclone.
Cyclones: Cyclones in the southwestern Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal moves at speeds of 60 to 120 km per hour. The central region of the cyclone has a deep low pressure and it mainly occurs in May-June or October-November. Such cyclones are completed at high speeds and take on destructive proportions.
Temperate cyclones:
In
the temperate zone, this type of cyclones are formed by the collision of warm and
cold air between the 30 and 60 ° north and south axis lines. Such cyclones form mainly on land in winter
and have speeds of 30 to 35 kmph, so they are not destructive in nature.
Different
names to the cyclones:
We
all hear or see a new name for Cyclone as soon as it is forecasted. In fact, it is very important to name or give
different names to the cyclones that have formed in different oceans of the
world so that the media, scientists of the disaster management department, the
common people can easily identify the specific cyclone.
The
Regional Specialized Meteorological Center (RSMC) is in charge of naming
cyclones. There are near about 12 Regional Specialized Meteorological Centers in
different parts of the earth. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), as a
representative of India plays an important role in naming cyclones in the Bay
of Bengal, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean.
Different regional departments offer their preferred names subject to
different conditions and then specify the name of a cyclone through the World
Meteorological Department by Panel of Tropical Cyclones or PTC.
It can be difficult to identify each cyclone
at different times if it is named by a number ball letter, so a name is
assigned to a specific storm by forming a panel out of the names given by these
regional groups subject to certain conditions. The Akash, Jharna, Megh etc names are given by India , Feni,
Helen etc names are given by Bangladesh and Bulbul, Laila etc. given by Pakistan.
