India is the seventh largest
country in the world in terms of area and
the second largest in terms of population.
On 15th August, 1947, India established itself as an independent state
under British rule. Geographically,
India's location is very important on the map of the world because the land
surrounded by water on three sides is rare in the world. Reviewing the history of India, it is seen
that different nations like Mughals, British, etc. came to India from different
parts of the world at different times targeting India's geo-natural and
cultural infrastructure and left their mark for a long time.

minutes east.

Greenwich Mean Time and four hours behind than Australian Standard Time and 10 hours
and 5 minutes ahead of American Standard Time.
ü India's newest state is Telangana and it was formed in
2014 after breaking up the state of Andhra Pradesh.

state is Goa. The largest union
territory of India is the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the smallest union
territory is Lakshadweep.
ü The highest population of India is seen in the state of
Uttar Pradesh and the lowest population is seen in Sikkim.
ü In India, Delhi has the highest population density and Arunachal Pradesh has the lowest population density.

language is English.

ü Mumbai is the economic capital of India and Mumbai is
called the gateway to India.
ü Kerala has the highest literacy rate in India and Bihar
has the lowest literacy rate.
ü The Radclip Line is located on the border of India
and Pakistan. The India-China border is
the McMahon Line and the India-Afghanistan border is the Durand
Line.
ü Another name for Indira Point is Pygmalion Point. Saddle Peak is the highest peak in the
Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
ü Chandigarh is simultaneously the capital of two
Union Territories.
ü Indira Point is the southernmost point on the island of
Great Nicobar.
ü In 1993, Delhi gained the status of National Capital
Region.

Mumbai is the fifth most populous city in the world.
v About 18 percent of the world's population lives in India
and about 20 percent in China.
TRANSPORT:
Ø In terms of length, India railways ranks fourth in the world and second in terms of roads.
Ø Rail service in India was first introduced in 1853 from Mumbai to Thane and it is one of the largest management of rail transport in World and the railway sector has been divided into sixteen regions for well management.
Ø The longest national highway in India is NH-7 and it is also known as NH-44(at present).
The shortest national highway in India is NH-47A, located in Kerala.
The
busiest road in India is NH-2. It is known as G.T Road.
Ø The largest airport in India is the Jaharlal Nehru Port
in Mumbai and the busiest airport in India is the Indira Gandhi
International Airport in Delhi.
Ø The first Metrorail service in India was started in
Kolkata in1984 and now there are Metro Rail systems in seven cities in India
namely Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Gurgaon, Mumbai and Jaipur.
Ø Mumbai is the gateway to India and the economic capital
and largest port of India.
Ø Navaseba which is known as Jaharlal Nehru Port in Maharashtra is the
most technologically advanced port in India.

Ø The fastest train in India is the Shatabdi Express at a
speed of about 140 km per hour. The

Ø The most expensive train in India is the Palace of Wheels. It is used for tourism in Rajasthan.
